Post subject: Front Disc Swappers: Need Help with Bearing Selecton!
PostPosted: Sat Jan 22, 2011 6:35 pm
1) I am buying this low down fork/front disc kit less the knock off DIO wheels pictured:
http://www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/p_i.php?i=328

2) I just received a set of these wheels w/out bearings:
http://www.drowsports.com/product/387/S ... els/RPM_10

3) I need to know which of the four bearing packages from this link (or any supplier for that matter) is the correct kit for my application:
http://www.jiangwayne.com/scooter/p_i.php?i=338

I've asked both the wheel supplier (Drew at DROW) and the front end kit (Wayne at jiangwayne) but still haven't received an answer from either. Has anyone done this swap or run into the same circumstance with a similar swap that may can provide some insight? Appreciate your help!

You're gonna have to ask JW on that one. When did you try and contact them??? Tell them which rims you have and they should be able to give you the right adapter.

Been corresponding through e mails. He's the one that sent me the link I posted of the bearing kits. He has been very helpful but the questions I need answered before ordering (which bearing kit? what size axle in the low down fork kit?) has been overlooked by him in several e mails. I was just hoping to maybe get a definitive answer from someone who had already gone this route so I'm not relying just on Waynes reccomendation as I don't want to be trying to return anything once I receive it.

I originally thought about using a NCY kit that several vendors on TR sell, but nobody could sell the kit without the front wheel and i really like the RPM wheels.

I would say post in the ruckus section, I have seen rucks with rpm wheels but not a met. It would be one of the dio bearing sets as ruckus wheels are wider. All the bearings on that page are 12mm. Your shocks look like 12mm compared to the other shock in the picture. I love RPM wheels and would like to see your finished product and maybe put some on my met. I bought an RPM front wheel to use with my atr front end on my ruckus. What sucks is that you need to get spacers custom made for the wheel...Hmmm I guess any met disk front you would need custom spacers though, since it's different than a ruck. Anyways I just gave up used the wheel with the kit. Good luck

Wasn't aware of that. I figured (my mistake maybe) that since the wheels were the same diamater as the wheels in everyones front kits (All DIO wheels, 10x2.15) they should interchange. Where is the difference that makes spacers necessary>

The spacing between the forks on a Ruckus are wider then they are on a Met. Just get yourself some bushing material and make your own, its really not that tough.

The Met tripple tree is not as wide as the Ruckus one so the spacers need to be smaller. Email Jaingwayne and see if the knock off dios are the same width as the RPM wheels. If they are the same you can use the spacer kit he makes for the Met.

**Edit Damn you Stimpy you are too quick

The knock off Dio wheels are the same width as RPM's, 2.15". The kit i'm getting is same as yours Trent, made specifacally for a Met so I'm hoping/thinking the spacers provided should work perfect. He also answered my e mail and told me he already had the correct bearing and seal kit set aside with the rest of my special order so all the packers have to do is ship it. I wouldn't even be concerned but I have read such a wide range of reviews on their service and specifically customers inability to return "wrong" orders. My hope is I will be able to write an awesome review on the parts and service once the project is complete! :D

does anyone know the correct spacing when using RRGS forks and a DIO wheel?

and does the bracket or disk have to be spaced out?

i don't understand how the wheel can be centered

seems it would be way over to the left

the problem i had was getting the rotor at the correct spacing/offset to allow the caliper to be centered on the rotor AND the wheel to be centered in the forks.

edit: just noticed you are using Met tree.

just keep that in mind because some of the wheels are machined differently where the rotor mounts up and some include a removable spacer.

so did u manage to get it sorted?

that's exactly how i see it

seems quite a gap between a centered wheel and the forks.....would probably require spacing out the bracket from the forks AND some spacers between the wheel and disk too

i did, but my scenario was a little different. fitting a 10x4.5" rim on the front of the Met w/ ruck tree. The wheel wasnt a common one and the RRGS low down forks w/brake setup didnt like the offset and size. it took quite a bit of measuring and testing different spacers in order to get the wheel centered first, then the rotor centered in the caliper plus get the caliper low enough to clear the 10x4.5" rim/barrel (required cutting down rotor too). a good 4 hours of work...srsly. i run a 12mm axle with spacers i cut to fit. everything was sourced off TR and Dorby.

over 800 miles and stopping strong and WWAAYYY better than the shitty front drum brakes. my only issue is the BMC/lever is a little too small for the setup and is a little grabby at times. and NO there are no bubbles in the system. just a crappy Ebay lever/BMC.

4 hrs to get it spot on :highfive: sounds like u work fast

i was playing with the set up a little more and the pieces are coming together

seems like the moral of the story is to have a whole lot of washers handy to ascertain the required spacing lengths for both the wheel and the caliper bracket, and possibly even resort to spacing out the disk if required

far from plug n play, but an achievable and rewarding challenge

thx for your input :highfive:
