Post subject: bad hesitation/acceleration from a dead stop - any fix??
PostPosted: Sun May 14, 2006 1:42 pm
I have pretty bad hesitation/acceleration from a dead stop. It starts out the first second ok, then sort of trails off for a second, and then kicks in the third secod and continues to accelerate fine. But, that dip in acceleration/power right at the start is very dangerous.

I have seen some other posts about the problem, but has anyone had it resolved or know what the problem is?

Also, I'm about to take my 2006BR in for its 600 mile service. Anyone think that will fix it ? What can I expect from the valve tune-up etc?

thanks!

This seems to be a valve adjustment issue. It should be the first thing the dealer does for your 600 mile service. Didn't have mine done until 2k and my BR was having the same issue. The valve adjustment resolved the problem.

Now, at just over 4k it's starting again....will have to wait til after next weekend's rally in KC, though. Can't get a spot at the dealer's for another 2-3 weeks anyway.

Keep us updated!

Hey dem!

Yup, mine did it- like HT said, valve adjustment. I have a '06 also and it started doing that around 300 miles, got worse and I took mine in right at 600 miles for the first service. Made sure they noted what my complaint was before they serviced.

They can't adjust the carburator to make it run less lean legally due to '06 emission standards- but it wasn't a carb issue anyhow. They adjusted the valves and the BR runs like a champ.

I'm just over 3K and once in a great while, I experience it to a slight degree- nothing like it used to be- maybe 3 times. I'm sure by 4K they'll have to adjust my valves again....

I don't know your background or your service department- do NOT let them tell you it's 'normal' for a scooter. Most dealerships aren't real adept with scoots to start with, and the BR is new territory for them. A good one will work with you and take your word for it!

Thanks HiTech and BlueJean. Glad to hear that the valve adjustment fixes things up. That's a load off my mind. I'm gonna call and make the appointment to take mine in. I'll let you know how I make out. :D

I was not able to remedy the initial hesitation issue. It is the carb, the valve adjustment, or a combination of both. Carb could also mean "needing a modification of air intake and jetting" that would differ from the factory settings for both emissions and gas mileage.

Read my post in here:
http://totalruckus.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... c&start=15

I find that giving it less throttle rather than too much works best until over 40mph.

The minor modifications I made to the trans worked out very well over all and make the hesitation a little more livable.

Thanks tfazio. If the valve adjustment doesn't fix it for me, I'll have to look into the rollers. Sounds like that may be a desireable mod to make it a little more spunky off the line anyway.
