Here are a few places in Manteo, which is across the bridge from Nags Head. Probably a little less expensive too.

Great prices. Best I've seen so far.

There is a KOA campground oceanfront in Rodanthe. It was slammed by the hurricane last year, and had be to completely rebuilt, so everything is new. They have small log cabins.
That might be a good option. I'll get more info.

Here is the link http://koa.com/campgrounds/cape-hatteras/

The Island Motel is small, but nice, with a tropical island feel.
The Dare Haven is bit bigger, and it is a court, layed out in a "U" configuration. They have a bunch of Harleys there this weekend.

I have stayed at a few KOA's around the country. Seems to me that KOA really caters to families.....so will probably not be as tolerant of loud stuff late at night. I looked at the KOA Cape Hatteras website and the facilities DO look outstanding.....but even if you stay in a Kamper Kabin (which aren't cheap), you are still going to be using the community bath/shower facilities (which have been recently renovated). I am totally open to the KOA idea......but I think that there might be many among us who are not keen on the community bath/shower facility issue. I would also be VERY concerned about the noise issue.

not keen on that idea if the price isn't that much cheaper. and of course the noise issue. We are NOT a quiet crew and shouldn't even pretend that we are

Dan.. after Asheville.. which i still dont understand after i went back and forth with the manager for over 2 months about him putting us together on a back side.. why he chose to put some old ladies with dogs in between us.. they had to be the ones that complained.. so i agree with you that a KOA would not be a good choice.. unless we could get a secluded section which from the maps doesnt look like the case..

:highfive:

Had an interesting experience when staying in a Kamper Kabin at a KOA in Moab, Utah in July of 2011. They advertised that the Kabins had 'air conditioning'. What they actually had were units called 'swamp coolers'. Those babies brought down the ambient temperature by a whopping 10 degrees. Since the normal daytime temperature there was well over 100 degrees.....you can imagine how comfortable we were trying to sleep at night. I think it finally cooled down enough by 2am to actually get some sleep without sweating your ass off in bed. Just thought I would share.

This one has seemingly good rates but may need a phone call to confirm
http://www.cavaliermotel.net/

I also saw this one and only 89.00 a night weekdays and 99.00 per weekend

seems reasonable and looks clean.

Poll added. I wish I had the room rates for each motel and a brief description to update the first post. Just don't have a lot of time today. I'll get to it though.
