I've heard good and bad about them. You'll have to weigh the cost of repair vs just replacing it.

bottom line is this..

reliability but slower than the race kits = Cast Iron .... Athena, Malossi, etc... can squeeze out 8k - 10k miles on them

fast, more tuning, = Aluminum kits .... Stage 6 , Athena sport pro, polini corsa, etc... because these are race kits they require more precise tuning and can get about 5-6k miles out of them. they are meant for racing... so you race them for a season and dump it..

good luck.

read this thread

viewtopic.php?f=159&t=51547

the best bang for your buck is either the Athena Cast Iron Kit, or the Malossi Cast Iron Kits. Both are excellent quality. I did not have too much good luck with Stage 6.

Athena doesn't even make a cast iron kit LOL :P It is a Nicasil plated bore and its aluminum on the outside.
Malossi does make a cast iron bore and its very very tame. I know i had that on the bike when I very first bought it.
Stage 6 bores and pipes are made by Athena....so your "luck" was probably user error as many people on most forums. They don't know what they are doing and mess it up and then wonder.

THAT IS FALSE BIG TIME! I have 10k miles on my Athena Single ring kit and its on its 3rd season and i ride year round since im in Florida. I have replaced the Piston/ring once and that was kinda just for precautionary measures.

You can get far more than 5-6k out of an Athena nicasil kit.
The advice in this thread is all by people that don't know squat about Zuma's
Before a S@#tstorm ensues just realize i fix scooters on the side as a living and am about to go Liquid cooled Stage 6 Race modular with over range kit and have helped literally HUNDREDS of people on Provo and back in the day even some on zumaforums.

Some people need some help on here. I wonder why they even buy a slow, 3000+ ruckus that they drop 2000+ more to make it look like a low rider and put in a zuma engine when they could just buy a damn Zuma.

Half the fun is building it and making it your own. Anyone can buy a zuma.....

im sorry but your pricing is way off,
i got my ruckus for $1200, and have about $800 on my swap,

plus i dont want a damn zuma cuz zumas are ugly, and it looks like every other scooter, a ruck is all about style, all the parts and things you can do to customize them and make them your own. there is 1 maybe 2 zuma engine extensions? and whats even more sad is that there are more zuma125 style type mods than the z50 and the z50 has been around at least twice as long than the z125. why is that? if i were to get a zuma it would just have been a z125, then its not worth getting a scooter that big cuz i could of just had a motorcycle.

haters gonna hate

I wouldn't say haters gonna hate. It's true. We do spend a lot on our scooters. The zumas are faster out of the box, and for a lot less money they can go even faster. I agree though that it is fun making it your own, customizing the ruckus. The zuma doesn't have many stylish mods out there that decipher it one from another. It is however addicting like any other hobby.

Zumas have many asthetic mods, many people dont do them side they are more interested in the award winning minarelli engine so lets get that straight first. The other thing is the zuma it's bor as big as a motorcycle lmao. If you guys had ridden a real bike then you would know that. The ruckus was cited second all time lamest or some shit scpoter in america. When i see people on a rucks I friggin laugh. Its a wanna be zuma with bug eyes.
I mean the ruck is very reliable and is good for trails but I wouldn't drive one around for its pathetic acceleration and top speed. You need to be able to get out of cars way and the ruck simly cant.

Zeon you need to get your shit together. That is one of the most ridiculous posts I have ever read. What are you in high school or something? Be a man bro! You are an embarrassment to the entire 2t community. That entire post was relative to how YOU feel. You and your shit are not the end all... be all man, so get off your high horse and grow up. These guys work their nuts off and spend tons of money to make something they love, and thats what this is all about. And you should tread very lightly, there are plenty of Rucks here that could hand you your ass on your Zuma. And if the second lamest scooter hands you your ass....all thats left for the number one spot is....

I don't mean to interrupt, but I'm a new member of this sight and I happen to have a Zuma 50 ( please don't throw things ) and I gotta say that if I didn't have this sight I would be screwed because I just ripped my bike apart last night and this is an opportunity for me not to just trade the damn thing in. It's all a hobby...... Lol I can't believe there is rivalry in scooter choice. It's like ford vs Chevy lol.

Just to chime in about the 'lame' Ruckus scooters that want to be Zumas... I really like the styling of the Ruckus. In stock form it is most certainly underpowered. It doesn't even have a front disk brake... However, as superior as the Zuma may seem, I am not a fan of the styling. I do however like the Zuma 125 motor. When my project is complete, I believe I will have the perfect scooter. It will be reliable, adequate-powered, have a front disk and still get 75-90 mpg. My project will be a great looking Ruckus (technically a Metropolitan front frame) with an awesome Zuma 125 motor. This is definitely costing me some coin, but I personally didn't like how tall the Zuma is or how I looked on it.

...and don't bash the Ruckus on a Ruckus site!
