I've read that 20-50 is good for gys during the hot summer months, all other times use 10-40.

I've used Honda Gn4 so far, but I'm thinking of switching to Mobil 1 v-twin. Says its made for air cooled engines.

Stay away from Lucas. Seriously man.

Why are you using it? What are you hoping to fix by using Lucas Oil Stabilizer?

I bet you put the Lucas in the Bel Ray oil too, huh? If you did, thats your problem. The Bel Ray is a Class V oil (esters). Conventional oil is a mix of Class II and III. Mobil1 is a hydro-cracked Class III. Not a real synthetic....but refined Class III. Class IV, also called PAO's....is the base oil of most synthetics. But it had to have all kinds of stuff added to it, because it isn't very soluable for dirt and additive packages.

When you added heavy unrefined Class II Lucas to the Class V ester Bel Ray, it was not compatible. You probably got heavy foaming, or accelerated breakdown and shearing.

If I was you, I'd run Mobil 1 20w50....you don't need the motorcycle oil. Its just for wet clutches. The best oil tho, is Mobil 1 Racing 0w50. Throw the Lucas away. No matter what oil you use tho.

No lucas in the belray. I added the lucas to my mobil1 to eliminate spitting from the breather and it also eliminated the fine aluminum sheen thats expected when you change the oil in a gy6. I always had spitting and sheen, even with mobil until I added the splash of lucas. The spitting immediately stopped as well as the sheen dissapearing from my oil.

Im not doubting that belray is a good oil. But for the GY6 its a no bueno. compared to a typical modern motor the gy6 is a small block chevy from the early 50's. Its just not made with the tolerances of a regular motor. And therefore you gotta go a little more low-tech.

the lucas is good for the gy6 cuz its such a known oil user/leaker. its a "preventative"

depends what oil you use. lucas isnt good with everything i know that.

im still new in my gy6 ventures tho so im just learning.

thanks for the advice tho :highfive:

Funny thing is.....I've never seen a GET come to a GRINDING halt like that.

I find it weird that Bel Ray caused this. It looks like it did tho. I can't fathom why.

I run Castrol GTx in about everything, I used it to break in an engine I built for my last car, put 10k on the engine before I sold it an when you pulled the vc the head was as silver as the day I put it together, my dad ran it in my moms old truck from the day they bought it, 300+k til it was eventually sold.. Hell he even runs it in the lawn mower lol almost 700hrs and it still runs great

It's proven itself in my situations so I stick with it

Got it on the road again. FINALLY!

Also did found a nice cheap plug for your cvt cover if you eliminate the kick starter. Cost $.90. :banger:

its a 3/4" round cap plug according to the hardware drawer. Worked like a charm!
