I see that a bunch of guys here are going the hardtail route. I am wondering I picked up some tubing today to make my hardtail. I am just wondering what you guys are using for the mounts. The top and bottom mounts. Does anyone have a picture or any suggestions. I can weld up things but do I need to use rubber bushings. Did you guys cut them off of other shocks.

Someone on here, maybe opie_p, took the spring off the shock, and replaced it with a piece of tubing, or pipe.

I'll try to find it for you.

Yeah, I haven't posted pics yet. I'll try to get some up this week. We did just what TT said but we had to cut the spring off because we didn't have a wrench small enough to reach through the spring.

I cut the spring off a stock shock, drilled a hole to release the oil, welded the metal rod in place, threaded it all the way down. It's adjustable to a degree.

If I had actually planned it to be adjustable, I would have cut open the tube, welded the inside, and threaded that.

A little more involved than going the pipe route, and this post is worthless without pics. I'll get one up later.

I used a wooden broom stick and put a nail on each end. Works great!

What I made for 09speed3's Met... Uses the stock upper and lower "u" pieces, welded to a .120 wall thickness 7/8" OD piece of DOM tubing. Slight bend on top side so it clears the aluminum frame :)

When I did the razz, I just disassembled the shock (the bottom mount unscrews), took off the spring, and slipped a piece of tubing in it's place. I just tack welded the tube to the top and bottom mounts. It ain't pretty, but no issues after a 3 tanks of gas and a day of drag racing at the strip.
