Post subject: Largest rear tire on a stock Metropolitan?
PostPosted: Tue Oct 04, 2011 12:52 pm
I'm putting a 2.15 x 10 Dio aluminum spoke rim on the rear of my Met. I would like to increase the footprint and was wondering if a 110/90/10 would fit under there? I can raise the plastic inner fender to clear any circumference increase and it looks like there's a boss on the rear-left corner of the motor that can be clearanced if the tire hits it, I'm not sure what it's for, it's just sitting there with nothing bolted to it.

Any ideas would be appreciated. I really want to keep the stock look of the Met. I've seen the 130/90/10s with no inner fender, missing taillight bracket, etc and I'm not after that kind of look, I just want more tread under my butt!

The short case tranny on the MET MIGHT, might give you a clearance issue between the back of the engine and the front of the tire. I'd check that space first.

tried (IIRC) a 100/90-10 on my gf's met, and got interference with the case, as i_am_swol mentioned. space is pretty tight in there.

Only way to take advantage of a larger rear tire (larger overall diamater will increase top speed) is to install a Ruck swingarm. NOTHING any larger than the 90/90/10 will work with the Met swingarm. :pissed: Sorry.

100/90 s1 michlen will fit , run them on all three of my mets, have to sand the edge of one of the blot in the case and a couple of the raise bumps on the oil dipstick tube and raise the fender with a couple of nut and longer 6mm bolts u get about 1 to 2 more MPH on the top end

Just curious - do you run the bigger 100/90/10 tire only on the rear? Or front and rear? Reason I ask is I'm wondering if the speedometer is dependent on the front tire diameter and if the accuracy would be affected.

Thank you!

just on rear have to raise rear fender up with a few nuts or washers and sand the head of one of the crankcase bolts if tire is new but will add topend michlen s1 at 36 psi

I run a 130/90/10 rear and a 110/90/10 front. I have checked the speedo with my gps and it is off just about as much (2-3mph) as it was with the 90/90/10.

Ive switch tire to 3.50 x10 michelin s1 same height as 100/90 10 but just not as wide, same size as 90/90 10 lighter rotating mass hitting 47 without tuck on stock motor and well over 50 in tuck past the headlight beam .

Are you saying the 3.50x10 tire is the same height as the 100/90/10 and same width as the 90/90/10? It's essentially like a 90/95/10 then.

Anyone know if the front can take 100/90/10?

I saw on a tire review site a guy runs 110/80/10 on all 3 of his Mets with a few modifications for clearance. Ideally I think that's what I would like to run as well. Anyone know if there is an aftermarket 10x3.5" or 10x4" wheel available to stretch the tire for maximum contact patch?

There are lots but only if your running the Ruck rear swingarm will you ever be able to run a wheel that wide. No way it would fit on front.

But u must do more than hes telling you u have to grind down head one bolt on the center case not all the way down but the edge of the bolt and lightly sand the case with sand paper on brand new tire with 23 lbs
