Asheville is about 2.5hrs from Deals Gap by car.. but we are thinking about possibly staying outside of asheville so we can goto asheville or go down near cherokee.. possibly the dragon.. but we will need more info from all you guys.. rubik posted a few campground/cabin places that allow motorcycles.. etc.. which would be cool.. but the closest one to asheville is 1hr drive to asheville on the parkway.. we will need more info on what we want to accomplish and like vince stated.. we dont want to over plan anything..

we goto the dragon every year in fact we have a ride in townsend, tn in mid july.. we are gonna hit the dragon again.. fall smokies ride we always do the dragon..

it's all good Momma Ruckus and I could always plan a few extra days to visit the Dragon on the way home from CoN '12

BlueRidge, I am not doubting your expertise in this area. Maybe googlemaps is wrong (they often are). They say 2 hours from Asheville to Deals Gap.
I think that is a workable ride. We could ride out, grab a bite, ride the dragon (there & back), hang out, then eventually make our way back to Asheville.
Sounds like a fine time to ride and we know riders ride. (:ucrazy: )

If it's going to be Asheville then so be it, it's a gorgeous part of the state. I was just up there this past weekend dropping my kid off at camp.

I will not be riding though, and there are two reasons why.

1. My ruck don't like the hills, at least the going up part. Even the other Josh beat me by 10 minutes going up to tuggles gap to that first pull off I will gladly take the title of slowest ruck this year

2. One thing we needed this year and didn't have was a chase car, and we all knew we needed on as soon as our boy took that header coming down the mountain.

So as it stands now I will volunteer my truck to be the official TR chase car for CoN 2012. I'm cool with it. And I sure don't want to hear anyone bitch that I won't be riding.

Josh, I have NO hills down here & am therefore not used to riding them. I am 50/50 on the tail of the dragon as well. I want to ride it and will if we get there, but I will go slow as a fawkin snail (or the slowest ruck).

Since I don't live there I really don't give a shit about rejetting for a single weekend. I just don't see a point in it. Plus I can have ac and Sirius radio. No big deal for me dude.
